Selling
Welcome to the Seller’s Guide for Hamilton Square Auctioneers. Selling at auction is a straightforward and effective way to achieve the best possible price for your items, whether you are selling a single object or an entire collection.
This guide outlines the selling process, from initial valuation through to payment after the sale, and explains what you can expect when consigning items with Hamilton Auctioneers.

Valuations are provided without obligation and are intended as a guide based on current market conditions.
Consigning Your Items
Once you decide to proceed with a sale, your items will be consigned to one of our auctions. At this stage, we will confirm estimates, reserve prices (if any), and seller’s commission.
A consignment agreement will be provided outlining the terms of sale, including commission rates, photography, and catalogue descriptions.
Preparing for Auction
Our team will professionally photograph and catalogue your items in preparation for sale. Each lot will be carefully described and placed in the most appropriate auction to maximise interest.
Sellers will be informed once the catalogue is live and may review descriptions prior to the auction where appropriate.
Auction Day
On auction day, your items will be offered for sale to bidders in the saleroom, online, by telephone, and via commission bids, depending on the nature of the sale.
Our experienced auctioneers aim to achieve the strongest possible result for every lot.
After the Sale
Following the auction, sellers will be notified of the outcome of their lots, including hammer prices and any unsold items.
Payment to sellers is typically made within an agreed period after the auction, once full payment has been received from the buyer.
Please note that payment timelines may vary depending on the auction and method of payment. Full details will be outlined in the consignment agreement.
Unsold Items
In the event that an item does not sell, we will discuss the available options with you. These may include re-offering the item in a future auction, private treaty sale, or collection by the seller.
